“Will this be our last?”
It was a question I never wanted to ask, but I needed to anyway.
“I don’t know,” she said, trailing.
She looked away. Even as she did, she still looked beautiful. Those eyes, sparkling along the trail of moonlight. Those soft cheeks, always deserving of a kiss. That noticeably long hair, most of time seeking attention yet it never fails to get it.
She complemented well with the velvet dress she was wearing. She deserved to be called a princess, but as they say, a princess one could never get.
“I miss you. Call me cheesy, but yeah I do.”
She slowly looked into my eyes and said, “Please, do not make this hard anymore.”
“Why would it be hard?”
“Please…just don’t.”
“Why?!”
“Because….”
“Because what?!”
“Because I still love you!”
“Then why did you break up with me?”
“I don’t know…”
A chill of cold air swept us. This park isn’t making it easier. It was just the two of us, and these concrete benches were witness to what was unfolding. The lamps ironically dark. I was still caught up with the exchange. Composure was too far away. Then in the spur of the moment, she said;
“You’ll still be the bestfriend I’ll ever have.” She kissed my cheek, turned around, and sauntered to the end of the avenue.
It’s painful to look at your future slowly walking away.
